A trained environmentalist, Tesfaye Bekele is a pioneering figure in Guji coffee. After devastating wildfires destroyed over 5,000 hectares of forest in 1998, Tesfaye was assigned to lead the reforestation efforts. He introduced coffee as a long-term solution, distributing seedlings across the region. But many locals were sceptical of the five-year wait for coffee trees to yield. Tesfaye founded Suke Quto Farm in 2000 to lead by example. His farm quickly proved that coffee could be the region’s future and became a model for sustainable and successful coffee production in Guji.
